Quick Update

Does it seem like I've abandoned this blog? Well there are two reasons for that:

1. The drama I'm watching now is 50 episodes long, so I'm not going to do a writeup for it until it's done. I'm only about 2/3 of the way through.

2. I've been devoting a lot of time to a new blog I created: Korean Albums Translated. That's right, I don't just translate songs, I translate full albums! I might still put up individual song translations here, but that blog is my main project right now. So far it includes four items from my collection, and hopefully there's plenty more to come.

I hope you enjoy what you find there!

Korean Music Time! #12: Kim Geon-Mo - Excuse (김건모 - 핑계)

Another one of these! I've actually translated tons of songs but just never bothered to publish them anywhere, so I figure I might as well dip into my reserves to keep you all from abandoning me. Here's a catchy little reggae-pop number I discovered recently.

핑계
Excuse

(Intro)
지금도 이해할 없는 얘기로
Even now, with that story I can’t understand
핑계를 대고 있어
You’re making an excuse

(Verse)
내게 그런 핑계대지마 입장 바꿔 생각을 해봐
Don’t make an excuse like that to me, try thinking from a different perspective
니가 지금 나라면 웃을 있니
If you were me right now, could you laugh?
혼자남는 법을 내게 가르쳐 준다며
When you say you’re teaching me how to be alone
농담처럼 진담인 건넨 한마디
That joke-like word is conveyed as though it were serious
안개꽃 한다발속에 숨겨둔 편지엔
In a letter hidden in a bouquet of baby’s breath
안녕이란 글자만 깊게 새겨있어
Only the two characters that say “goodbye” are deeply carved

(Chorus)
이렇게 쉽게 니가 떠날줄은 몰랐어
I had no idea you would leave me so easily like this
아무런 준비도 없는 내게 슬픈 사랑을 가르쳐 준다며
When you say you’re teaching the sad ways of love to me, who was completely unprepared
핑계를 대고 있어
You’re making an excuse

(Verse)

(Chorus 2X)

Note: The "two characters that say 'goodbye'" are "안녕." It's referring to written characters.

This song is kind of funny. It sounds like his woman left him, claiming he needed to learn to deal with difficulty, but he's saying that's a BS excuse. I think he's probably right. (Sigh)...women.
